The butterflies were swarming as we left Luxor, the “Long One” to run today. Back over the shale and rocks of Saturday plus some. Many crews opting for the tarmac route, those of us at the top of the table prepared to challenge ourselves and our vehicles. The short old tarmac road, not quite the KIngswood’s cup of tea, was followed by 84km of GPS navigation through the desert valleys of sand and stony outcrops. Our plan to set a steady pace but save our tyres, the aim to climb a place on the results table. Sixty four minutes of knocks and bumps, squeals and squeaks, hot and sticky concentrating all the way to second place. Our friendly nemesis, the land crab, unable to sustain the banter and sledging of the last few days. We have had a lot of fun with Roy and Peter and Clive and Ces all fighting and scrambling for the second place silverware, the Broderick’s a class above us all in their well prepared, speedy 240Z.
After parading through Hurghada we convoyed to El Gouna, the finish line at the Marina. Drinks and celebrations, the sun setting on another rally.
